Mourners arrive at church to attend the funeral service for Zambia’s founding president Kenneth Kaunda. A hero of the struggle against white-minority rule, Kaunda, popularly known by his initials of KK, died at the age of 97 on 17 June 2021 at a military hospital where he had been admitted with pneumonia. He was president of Zambia for 27 years, taking the helm after the country gained independence in October 1964. French President Emmanuel Macron arrives for the funeral of Chad leader Idriss Deby, who ruled the country with an iron fist for 30 years but was a key ally in that fight against Islamist insurgents.
