Karo, Mar 3 (EFE/EPA).- The Sinabung volcano, one of Indonesia’s most active, on Wednesday continue to send a cloud of ash into sky. Mount Sinabung erupted on Tuesday, emitting a huge column of ash and smoke that reached 5,000 meters in height. Intermittent eruptions of the Sinabung, which measures 2,460 meters, has shown uninterrupted activity since 2013, causing 16 deaths in 2014 and seven in 2016, although they have never exceeded Grade 3 (on a scale of eight) on the Volcanic Explosivity Index.The Indonesian archipelago sits within the so-called Pacific Ring of Fire, an area of ??great seismic activity with 127 active volcanoes and which experiences thousands of tremors a year, most of them of small magnitude. Footage released on the 17th of March show flaming lava pouring out of the crater of Indonesia's Mount Merapi, one of the world's most active volcanoes, which erupted late Friday and continues to spew hot ash and other volcanic material. Merapi also erupted last week, sending volcanic material 9,600 feet (3,000 metres) above the summit. IMAGES
The continuing volcanic eruption of Mount Etna on the island of Sicily could be sighted on Tuesday. The 10,922 foot high mountain has been spewing lava since Monday. Mount Etna is Europe's most active volcano and lies between the cities of Messina and Catania. The current eruption originates at the south-eastern crater and is visible from the east coast of Sicily. The last time Etna erupted was in May 2016 and, according to experts, the current eruption does not threaten nearby settlements.
