I thank everyone, all the displays of affection they have given us, and the people who have shown us rejection because I believe that they will change over time. This action shows that our country is transforming. Our educational policies have to change, they have to stop people from hating, being racist, murdering girls, women, the LGBT community and these steps help create a better society for all."
Pope Francis officially declared support for civil unions for same-sex couples for the first time. The Pope made the groundbreaking remarks in a documentary film that was released on Wednesday. Pope Francis said: "Homosexual people have a right to be in a family. Nobody should be thrown out or be made miserable over it". He went on to say: "What we have to create is a civil union law. That way they are legally covered". The Pope has suggested in the past that he is not against civil unions, but this is the first time he has directly come out in favor of them. The documentary, "Francesco" was released Wednesday in Rome.
