A major 7.8-magnitude earthquake hit southeastern Turkey on Monday, the US Geological Survey said, levelling buildings across several cities and causing damage in neighbouring Syria. Rescue teams and volunteers continued to comb through the rubble of a collapsed school in Mexico City in search of trapped survivors, in the aftermath of a magnitude 7.1 earthquake, on Wednesday. Reports have provided conflicting information, with sources stating that up to 26 bodies have been found, 21 of which were children, and that 11 people have been rescued. The disaster has so far claimed the lives of at least 237 people, with the death toll expected to rise, while some 52 people had been pulled alive from collapsed buildings.
