On a surprise visit to Finland to participate in a summit gathering the leaders of the five Nordic nations, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky says he believes "that this year will be decisive for us, for Ukraine, for Europe, decisive for victory". Zelensky's remarks come at a press conference with his Finnish counterpart Sauli Niinisto, whose country became NATO's newest member in April in the wake of Russia's invasion of Ukraine. SOUNDBITE
European Council President Charles Michel warns that the coming weeks could decide the course of Russia's invasion of Ukraine. He makes the statement following a meeting between European leaders and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. "The next few weeks and months will probably be decisive. This is not the time to tremble, this is the time to be lucid and this is the time to deploy maximum support," Michel says. SOUNDBITE
"Earlier today, I sent a letter to Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov proposing that we meet next week in Europe following on our talks in recent weeks to discuss the steps that we can take to resolve this crisis without conflict," US Secretary of State Antony Blinken says while speaking at a UN Security Council meeting.
