South America's first Baha'i temple was opened atop Penalolen hill near Santiago on Thursday. The five-year-long construction process culminated in a beautiful building surrounded by scenic mountain views. The Baha'i faith is a monotheistic religion which believes that one God is the source of all creation and that all major religions have come from the same spiritual source. The opening ceremony was attended by former Chilean Education and Finance Minister Nicolas Eyzaguirre among others. Canadian architectural firm Hariri Pontarini Architects was the project designer, inspired by a quote from Baha'u'llah, founder of the Baha'i Faith, that "the light of the divine must permeate our hearts."
