US Secretary of State Antony Blinken warns that time was running out for Iran to return to a nuclear deal after a scathing report by the UN atomic watchdog. SOUNDBITE
Vienna (Austria), 19 (EFE) .- (Camera: Jordi Kuhs) The European Union (EU), which coordinates the negotiations for the United States and Iran to once again comply with the 2015 nuclear pact, was optimistic on Wednesday that an agreement can be closed in the next few weeks. "We have made great progress in these last 10 days. But there are still issues to address. We will continue working next week. All the delegations are very committed and as coordinator I can tell you that the spirit of commitment is high. They are all very committed to an agreement that for us is key to non-proliferation, the stability of the region for the Middle East and for international peace and security. " 2. "I don't want to venture with a date, because you never know, but I'm sure there will be a final agreement not far from now." 3. "That is one of our objectives, I mean, the elections are on June 18 and as far as I know, so we still have one month less one day. I think it can be achieved."
Secretary of State Antony Blinken says that the United States will offer no sanctions relief to Iran under a draft deal that would free five Americans. "In any event, in any respect, Iran will not be receiving any sanctions relief," Blinken tells reporters when asked about the expected release of $6 billion in frozen Iranian funds. SOUNDBITE
The EU's foreign policy chief says he is hopeful the Iran nuclear deal could be revived after receiving "reasonable" responses to his proposed text from Iran and the United States. "I am hoping that in the coming days we are not going to lose this momentum and we can close the deal" says Josep Borrell, at an informal meeing of EU foreign ministers in Prague. SOUNDBITE
