Sinogene, a lab based in Beijing, became the first to clone a dog through gene-editing technology, which allows them to identify, copy, and reproduce genetic information from dogs. The first cloned canine, a beagle pup named Longlong, was born in May and two others followed suit. Gene-editing technology has many potential uses, allowing rare dog breeds to become more widespread, cloning of irreplaceable pets, and even removing genetic diseases before birth.
The world's first tour bus specifically geared towards hosting dog owners and their dogs hit the streets of London on Tuesday. The tour, which was organised by the More Than Dog insurance company, includes stop-offs for walks and meals at canine-friendly restaurants. The tour bus, called the K9, begins and ends at Milbank in central London, and is running three times a day for four days, ending on January 19.
Domestic animals bark the loudest this week at the box office, with the animated comedy "Secret Life of Pets" chewing on $50.6 million in North American ticket sales. Jillian Kitchener reports.
