New Delhi, Mar 2 (EFE/EPA).- Indian Myanmar's pro-democracy activists and Myanmar refugees living in India gathered in downtown New Delhi on Wednesday to protest the military coup.Hundreds of pro-democracy activists and Aung San Suu Kyi supporters gathered and held a protest after Myanmar's Aung San Suu Kyi and other top political leaders were detained in a military coup on 1 February amid allegations of voter fraud in the November 2020 elections in Myanmar. The Myanmar army justified the seizure of power on alleged electoral fraud in November’s general elections, in which international observers did not detect any rigging and in which the National League for Democracy, the party led by deposed leader Aung San Suu Kyi, won a landslide victory. Officials from Thailand, Myanmar and the United Nations arrange a deal to begin repatriating the first of some 100,000 refugees to Myanmar now that an elected government has assumed power. Diane Hodges reports.

Indonesian authorities on Thursday rescued at least 69 Rohingya refugees who had been at sea for weeks after their boat capsized a day earlier. The refugee group's wooden boat and another vessel trying to help them both capsized on Wednesday, with survivors estimating that around 150 Rohingya had been on board with dozens swept away. Rescuers had rushed to save the group of Rohingya after they spotted them in the water, stranded and holding onto an overturned boat off the coast of western Aceh province. IMAGES
