Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham criticized the House impeachment efforts on Wednesday. Graham appeared to shade Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, says Business Insider. "It is a rushed process that, over time, will become a threat to future presidents," Graham said. He continued with, "As to Senate leadership, I fear they are making the problem worse, not better." Graham broke from Trump and firmly acknowledged that Biden won the 2020 race. However, on Tuesday, Graham accompanied Trump on Air Force One for a visit to Alamo, Texas.
Republican former President George W. Bush called out the rioters who stormed the US Capitol building on Wednesday. Thousands of Trump supporters violently forced their way onto the Capitol grounds and into the Capitol building. The insurrection forced a shutdown of the House and Senate chambers of the US Capitol on Wednesday. Former President Bush called the scene "sickening and heartbreaking" in a pointed statement. He went on to say "I am appalled by the reckless behavior of some political leaders since the election".
Democrats Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock are projected to win the Senate seats for Georgia. That hands overall government control to the Democratic Party. Business Insider reports that one of the pivotal issues in the Georgia campaigns was the prospect of $2,000 COVID-19 stimulus checks. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell blocked the $2,000 checks. Reports in December suggested that fears over Georgia prompted him to back $600 checks instead of blocking them entirely. A fierce push by President Trump for $2,000 checks put the issue back on the table. McConnell led the Senate GOP in killing the issue.
The homes of both US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell have been vandalized. CNN reports the incidents took place after the Senate stalled Friday on increasing stimulus checks to $2,000 for millions of Americans. Pelosi and McConnell are the two highest-ranking members of Congress. After McConnell's Louisville home was marked with graffiti early Saturday morning, the Kentucky Republican denounced the incident as a "radical tantrum." CNN reports police say an unidentified suspect or suspects vandalized one of Pelosi's homes in San Francisco. The person or persons painted graffiti on the garage door and left a pig's head on the sidewalk.
Sen. Lindsey Graham is one of Pres. Donald Trump's biggest defenders. Trump spent part of his Christmas with Graham in Palm Beach, Florida. People are waiting to see if Trump sign the COVID-19 relief bill. Trump has previously expressed his support to provide Americans $2,000 in COVID relief funds, instead of the proposed $600 package. Graham tweeted his belief that Trump wants to sign a COVID package providing all Americans with $2,000 checks. "I am convinced he (Trump) is more determined than ever to increase stimulus payments to $2000 per person."
