CNN reports that Pete Buttigieg is in the running to become President-elect Joe Biden's Secretary of Transportation. Buttigieg ran for President in 2020. Business Insider reports that he is widely expected to run for president again in the future. If nominated, Buttigieg would be the first openly gay Cabinet secretary to be approved by the US Senate. Several other candidates have been considered for the role, including Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti.
A vice-president of the European Parliament, Eva Kaïli, has been arrested by Belgian police in connection with an investigation into corruption that implicates World Cup hosts, Qatar. Images show Kaili defending Qatar from criticism of its labour rights record and calls out Western hypocrisy. Speaking in front of the European Parliament in November, Kaili says "Qatar is a front-runner in labour rights, abolished Kefala, introducing minimum wage" and that "some here are calling to discriminate (against) them...but still, they take their gas, they have their companies profiting billions there."
