Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene is a Republican from Georgia known for her promotion of the baseless QAnon conspiracy theory. In a statement, she was suspended by Twitter for 12 hours. Twitter confirmed to Insider that Greene had been temporarily "locked out" from the account. She was cited for violations of its civic integrity policy. On Saturday, Greene tweeted that Trump supporters should "mobilize and make your voices heard in opposition to these attacks on our liberties." Social-media platforms, including Twitter, have cracked down on accounts that spread misinformation and encourage violence. The move comes after pro-Trump rioters stormed the US Capitol on January 6.
Right-wing radio host Rush Limbaugh has deactivated his Twitter account. Limbaugh's choice to step off Twitter follows the permanent suspension of President Trump's account by the company. Limbaugh is one of a handful of high-profile Trump supporters who closed or lost their Twitter accounts following the Capitol Hill insurrection. Twitter has also suspended the accounts of Trump's former national security advisor Michael Flynn, pro-Trump lawyer Sidney Powell, and Ron Watkins. Business Insider reports Limbaugh has praised the rioters as being in the same class as Revolutionary War heroes Thomas Paine and Samuel Adams.
Twitter said Wednesday it has locked President Donald Trump's account for 12 hours, says CNN. This is a warning sign, for the first time, that the site may suspend him permanently. The temporary lock reflects Trump's violation of the Twitter rules, the company said. "We have required the removal of three @realDonaldTrump Tweets," said Twitter. The tweets posted earlier today were repeated and severe violations of Twitter's Civic Integrity Policy. Twitter says future violations will result in a permanent suspension of Trump's account.
