Lapland left lonely as tourists stay away from Santa's homeland

Description

In Rovaniemi on the Arctic Circle, a flood of international visitors normally packs out the Santa Claus Village amusement park, in search of reindeer rides, snow castles and a meeting with the jolly red figure himself. But visitor numbers to Lapland have plummeted due to coronavirus border closures, leading to 5,000 job losses and 700 million euros in lost revenue, forcing tourism businesses to make hard choices about whether to try and struggle through the quiet winter season, or cut their losses and close until winter 2021.
