On Sunday, Republicans and Democrats in Congress agreed upon a new $900 billion coronavirus relief bill. This includes sending out the second round of stimulus checks for adults. That's half the amount of the first round of stimulus checks in April. According to Insider polling, 62% of respondents believe that the $600 checks are too little. Additionally, 76% of respondents said the payments should be greater than $1,000. 43% said the checks should be $2,000 or more.
The second round of stimulus checks from the US government are going out this week. Business Insider reports the checks will pay up to $600 each, or $1,200 per married couple, plus additional funds for children. According to Congress's bill authorizing the payments, most of the direct cash payments will be sent to qualifying Americans by January 15. Biden said the actual dollar amount of the next direct payment remains "a negotiating issue." Biden added that Americans senators a round of thanks for pushing for direct payments in the latest COVID relief bill. The next COVID-19 stimulus package will extend federal unemployment assistance, Biden said. "People are desperately hurting."

The money will hopefully provide a needed boost to the economy slammed by the pandemic. The checks may also prove not to be the last round of economic assistance.

The Florida senator supported the Caring for Americans with Supplemental Help Act that passed in the House on Dec. 28. Rubio begged Biden work past partisan motives to get $2,000 payments to Americans. According to Business Insider, Biden previously expressed support for $2,000 stimulus checks. They are expected to be included in his economic relief package releasing on Thursday.
