Tehran (Iran), Jan 29 (EFE), (Camera: Marina Villén).- Iran is exploring all ways to achieve an effective Covid-19 vaccine to become a regional producer in the near future. For now, the local candidates are CovIran Barekat, who is in the first phase of clinical trials; and Razi Cov Pars, who has just obtained permission to begin testing in humans; as well as a joint vaccine project with Cuba. SOUNDBITES OF KIANUSH YAHANPUR, HEAD OF PUBLIC RELATIONS, IRAN'S MINISTRY OF HEALTH AND MEDICAL EDUCATION:1. "It was not clear which strategy could ultimately lead to an effective and safe vaccine against COVID-19, so practically no opportunity was lost and any route or platform existed in the country was explored." 2. "The determined objective is for Iran to position itself as the hub of vaccine production at least in the Eastern Mediterranean and Western Asia region." 3. "(CovIran Barekat) It is a vaccine with few side effects, is safe and effective and we are very hopeful that next spring we will mass produce it in the country." 4. "The technology which was chosen for the vaccine developed by Cuba and Iran, from the Pasteur Institute of Iran and the Finlay Institute of Cuba, and their clinical studies have been successful in the first and second phases and I can say that, compared to many vaccines produced in the West, 50 miles from Cuba, in the US, this one is safer." 5. "We expect that from the beginning of summer we will no longer need foreign ones and, in practice, we will fully advance vaccination with the Iranian vaccine until its completion."
Tehran (Iran), Jan 14 (EFE), (Camera: Artemis Razmipour).- The Covid-19 vaccine is immersed in the conflict between Iran and the United States. Although Iran is the most affected country in the Middle East, it has banned the US vaccines and relies on others still in development. Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said that vaccines produced in the US, especially Pfizer's, "are not reliable" and may seek to "contaminate other nations." SOUNDBITES OF:-AYATOLLAH ALI KHAMENEI (00:00-00:34): "The importation of American and British vaccines into the country is prohibited. I have told those responsible and now I am making it public. If the Americans had been able to produce a vaccine, that coronavirus disaster it would not have happened in his own country."-MOHAMMAD REZA ZAFARGHANDI, PRESIDENT OF THE IRAN'S MEDICAL COUNCIL (2:46-3:05): "The negotiations that have been carried out (to import vaccines), as far as I know, are with China, India and Russia and some agreements have been reached."
On Wednesday Credit Suisse Strategists revealed the key to investing in 2021 is preparing for a virus-free economy in 2022. In a note to clients, the team initiated a 2021 S&P 500 price target of 4,050. Business Insider reports that the target implies a 12% rally from Tuesday's closing level. Various coronavirus vaccines are vying for regulatory authorization. That led Credit Suisse to "de-emphasize the near-term" and focus on how the US economy would launch out of its virus slump. The team said "the virus will be a fading memory" in 2022 and the rotation to cyclical stocks will be "largely behind us."
