Only 25% Of Children With Common Hearing Loss Receives Treatment

Description

Only 60% of children with a common form of hearing loss are treated by a specialist. Of those, only 25% undergo a full diagnostic work-up and receive treatment for the condition. Sensorineural hearing loss occurs as a result of damage to the inner-ear. Children with the condition may have difficulty hearing soft sounds, while louder noises may be muffled. According to UPI, it is the most common type of permanent hearing loss, affecting up to 15% of American children. Recommended treatments for the condition include cochlear implant surgery, hearing aids, and speech therapy.
