The cameras return to show the behind-the-scenes of FCA’s research and development activities. The series focuses on the changes in processes, methods and technologies accompanying the transition to electrified vehicles which are more connected and autonomous than ever.
Second season of the documentary series by Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) shows the background to the evolution of mobility. The vehicles of the future, the development of which is already in full swing, can be configured even more individually to customer requirements and bring significant advances in technology and efficiency. In the first episode of the second season of "FCA What’s Behind", the focus of every automobile is on the heart - the engine.
The mobility challenges of the future are here and propulsion systems that deliver performance and driving pleasure, while being even more sustainable, are top of the list of challenges. Episode 1, Season 2 of FCA What’s Behind showed how FCA’s global research activities are focused on identifying and developing propulsion technologies oriented toward sustainable mobility.At FCA, this focus on the future coexists with an appreciation for a valuable, inspirational legacy. For more than a century, the automobile has represented a revolution not only in mobility, but also in thought, horizons and possibilities. And for more than a century, on both sides of the Atlantic, the Group’s brands have produced models that have become part of the world’s cultural heritage. Episode 2 of the current season talks about FCA’s valued heritage, with a specific focus on the activities of FCA Heritage, which serves as a platform for the Group to communicate and leverage the rich history of its Italian brands.
Season 2, Episode 1 of FCA What’s Behind begins, of course, with the engine. It takes a look back at the history of engines and shows how FCA's global powertrain research and development activities are focused on the technology solutions best suited to the new concept of mobility.To paraphrase Aristotle, the engine is conceptually the "prime mover" of the profound interest and fascination provoked by the automobile from the very beginning. In the early years, the goal of automakers was to make engines increasingly more powerful. This led to the creation of many legendary engines and also saw development of many sophisticated solutions that are still in use today.Although hidden under the hood, the engine often attracts greater curiosity and fascination than other parts of a vehicle which may be more visible but are less decisive in terms of the decision to buy or the overall evaluation.
