Marvel et Disney ont décidé de remplacer Kang par Doctor Doom pour incarner la future grosse menace du Marvel Cinematic Universe. Dans le costume, on retrouvera Robert Downey Jr., naguère interprète de Tony Stark/Iron Man. Un aveu d’échec ? Depuis Avengers: Endgame, pinacle du Marvel Cinematic Universe en termes de grand spectacle et de box-office (près de 2,8 milliards de dollars de recettes dans le monde), l’empire de Disney et Marvel est friable. Les deux géants ont connu des difficultés (moins de 500 millions de dollars pour Ant-Man et la Guêpe : Quantumania), ont fait des paris scénaristiques douteux (le multiverse) et ont dû composer avec l’affaire Jonathan Majors. L’acteur devait prendre la suite de Thanos dans le rôle de Kang. Reconnu coupable d’agression sur son ex-compagne en décembre 2023, il a été exclu des studios Marvel. Le Marvel Cinematic Universe a aujourd’hui besoin d’un électrochoc — ce que ne sera pas Deadpool & Wolverine. Marvel et Disney ont donc tranché et ont appliqué la fameuse recette du « c’est dans les vieux pots qu’on fait les meilleures soupes ». À l’occasion du Comic-Con de San Diego, les deux multinationales ont annoncé le 28 juillet 2024 le grand retour de Robert Downey Jr.. Cependant, l’acteur ne reprendra pas le costume d’Iron Man (sacrifié à la fin d’Avengers: Endgame). Il endossera celui de Doctor Doom (Docteur Fatalis), le désormais futur grand méchant du Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Images of red hands spray-painted on several buildings in the historic Jewish quarter of Paris, while the "Wall of the Righteous Among the Nations" outside the Holocaust Museum in Paris was also defaced. Around 20 of the hand symbols were found beneath the wall at the memorial in central Paris honouring individuals who saved Jews from persecution during the 1940-44 Nazi occupation of France.
