Cyclone Emnati has lashed the island nation of Madagascar, still reeling from the impact of another cyclone earlier this month. The storm, which passed just north of Indian Ocean islands of Mauritius and Reunion, had weakened slightly by the time it reached the eastern coast of Madagascar, but was still packing winds of around 100 kilometres (60 miles) per hour and gusts of 140 km/h, according to Meteo-France. The ocean is choppy, and gusts of wind blow through palm trees in Saint-Leu, as cyclone Belal hits France's island of Reunion in the Indian Ocean this morning. The eye of the storm passed over the island, avoiding causing any major damages according to French national weather service Meteo-France. Alert level has been lowered from purple to red. IMAGES

Aerial shots show the extensive destruction in Al-Maghazi refugee camp, in the central Gaza Strip, following deadly Israeli air strikes. The Gaza health ministry said an Israeli air strike killed at least 70 people on Christmas Eve at the Al-Maghazi refugee camp. The army said it was "reviewing the incident", adding it was "committed to international law including taking feasible steps to minimise harm to civilians". IMAGES
