Washington's United Nations ambassador makes a direct plea to Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov to release a detained US journalist and a former US Marine. "I am calling on you, right now, to release Paul Whelan and Evan Gershkovich immediately, to let Paul and Evan come home," Linda Thomas-Greenfield tells Lavrov as the Russian foreign minister chairs a UN Security Council meeting in New York. "The United States does not have a biological weapons program. There are no Ukrainian biological weapons laboratories supported by the United States," US Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield tells the Security Council, strongly rejecting Russia's claim of such activity. SOUNDBITE
Russia's "reckless" overnight attack on a nuclear power (plant, ed) in Ukraine endangered all of Europe, the US ambassador to the United Nations says. "Russia's attack last night put Europe's largest nuclear power plant at grave risk," Linda Thomas-Greenfield tells the Security Council during an emergency meeting. SOUNDBITE
An overwhelming vote at the UN Human Rights Council to investigate abuses following Russia's invasion of Ukraine should show President Vladimir Putin "the whole world is against you", Kyiv's ambassador says. "The message to Putin has been clear: You're isolated on a global level and the whole world is against you," Ukrainian ambassador Yevheniia Filipenko tells reporters after the vote. SOUNDBITE
