On the sixth day of fighting in Ukraine since Russia invaded, airstrikes on a government building and a residential block in Kharkiv kill at least 18 people; residents and soldiers in Kyiv prepare for another assault as a 65km long Russian military convoy draws nearer; a strike on a television tower kills at least five people and interrupts broadcasting; people continue to flee into neighbouring countries, with the UN counting nearly 680,000 refugees, around half of them into Poland.

    On the eighth and ninth days of fighting, a fire at Europe's biggest nuclear power station at Zaporizhzhia is put out, with Ukraine accusing Russia of "nuclear terror" in shelling the plant. Moscow's UN ambassador Vassily Nebenzia denies that Russian forces had shelled the plant, saying the statements "are simply untrue". Ukraine plans to hold a third round of talks this weekend with Russian officials to try to end the fighting, one of Kyiv's negotiators says.
