Sweden will apply for membership in NATO, Swedish Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson says, reversing two centuries of military non-alignment.

Finnish President Sauli Niinisto meets with Swedish Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson in Stockholm, as the two Nordic neighbours prepare a bid for membership of the North Atlantic Treaty Alliance. Both nations, which have traditionally remained non-aligned in military matters, have reconsidered their positions on the US-led defence grouping after Russia's invasion of Ukraine. IMAGES
The war in Ukraine has sparked debates in Finland and Sweden over whether they should join the NATO military alliance.
Both countries are considering joining the security alliance in order to benefit from its collective defence protection.
