South Africa's President Cyril Ramaphosa visits a site of looting in the eastern KwaZulu-Natal province following a week of deadly violence which he says had been 'planned'. Shopping malls and warehouses have been ransacked in two provinces, stoking fears of shortages and inflicting a devastating blow to the economy. At least 121 people have died, some shot and others killed in looting stampedes. IMAGES
Deadly floods in Kenya’s capital Nairobi continue to engulf sections of the city’s streets and homes, including in the Mathare slum district, one of the areas most affected. The death toll from the floods has risen to 13, local authorities say, after three bodies were found in the Mathare river that crosses the slum of the same name. IMAGES
