Russian forces are now largely in control of the key eastern Ukrainian city of Severodonetsk amid fierce fighting, Kyiv said Wednesday. FRANCE 24's Jonathan Walsh just got back from reporting in Ukraine, he speaks about the situation near Severodonetsk.
Moscow has focused its attention on counter attacks against Ukrainian defenders near the Kharkiv-Luhansk Oblast region in order to regain positions lost earlier in their invasion.
People in the southern Ukrainian city of Kherson dance around a bonfire singing "Chervona Kalyna", a Ukrainian patriotic song, as they celebrate their country's armed forces entering the city following a Russian withdrawal. Moscow said on Friday it had withdrawn more than 30,000 troops in the southern Kherson region to the eastern bank of the Dnipro river.
A forced pullout from Kherson, the only provincial capital Moscow captured after invading Ukraine in February, would mark one of Russia’s worst war setbacks.
