French street artist C215 has been making political and humanitarian statements through his work for more than 20 years. Following the Russian invasion in early 2022, he travelled to Ukraine for a project that straddles art and activism. Our reporters check out the results, which are currently on show at the National Assembly in Paris.
Viktor gently cranks away at his old music box on the corner of a main road in Ukraine's eastern city of Kharkiv, sending peaceful music tinkling out onto the city's war-torn streets in an attempt to bring "happiness" to passers-by. "I'm happy when other people are happy," says Viktor, as pigeons flock around him, almost moving to the music. "We lack happiness these days, you know?" he adds.
"Flowers For Hope", an art project painting sunflowers on destroyed vehicles in Irpin, aims to provide a distraction in environments devastated by war and raise money for humanitarian aid. But why are they painting sunflowers?
