'Lots of women and kids are not as lucky as I am to escape the bombing'

Description

Polina Boichuk is a resident of the Kyiv region and she joins France 24 to share her story. When the invasion began, she thought she'd be "much safer" in a city in the Kyiv region called Irpin. But when the bombings began, her city was targeted as well and she was forced to take cover in the basement for an entire week. "I heard bombings all the time. The house near ours was bombed and I really thought that I would die. I really thought that I would not survive that." Still under heavy fire, she was forced to flee. Against all odds, she managed to escape "through the only way out because all the bridges around that city were bombed." And the most harrowing aspect of what she endured was that "this is not unique. All the people around Ukraine face the same thing," explains Ms. Boichuk. "[But] unfortunately, lots of women and kids are just not as lucky as I am to escape the bombing."
