Wildfires in the hills of Southern California have burned through more than 100,000 acres in an around Ventura County, destroying more than 300 homes, business, and other buildings. Tens of thousands have been evacuated as over 1,100 firefighters fought to contain the blaze. Claire and Dennis Jenks were among those that fled the fire with little more than what they could carry. However, when they returned to their home of 40 years on Wednesday, all they found was a pile of smouldering remains.
A huge wildfire broke out in the hills near Santa Paula, California on Monday. It's rapid spread is helped along by gusts sweeping through the area at 50 miles per hour. California Governor Jerry Brown has declared a state of emergency for Venture County. Over 1,100 firefighter have gathered to battle the blaze.
