Dozens of evacuees who cowered for weeks in the ruins of a steel works in Russian-occupied Mariupol reached the safety of Kyiv-controlled Zaporizhzhia on Tuesday where hospitals were ready to treat people for anything from burns to malnutrition. Ukraine hopes a column of evacuees from the ruins of a vast steel works in the Russian-occupied city of Mariupol will reach the Ukrainian-controlled city of Zaphorizhzhia later on Tuesday. FRANCE 24's Luke Shrago reports from Zaphorizhzhia, Ukraine.
Earlier, the Russian defence ministry said 1,908 Ukrainian soldiers from Azovstal had "rendered themselves prisoner" since Monday.
Eight buses carrying 174 Mariupol civilians, including 40 evacuated from the Black Sea port's besieged Azovstal steelworks, arrived in Ukrainian-controlled Zaporizhzhia on Sunday.
Thousands of traumatised Syrians leave the rebel enclave of Aleppo as the UN Security Council votes to deploy observers to the battered city to monitor the evacuations.
