Porsche Penske Motorsport has qualified for the hyperpole with two Porsche 963 – and thus has a chance to claim pole position in the shootout for this year's 24 Hours of Le Mans. The factory team's two hybrid prototypes with the starting numbers 5 and 75 wrapped up the qualifying session on Wednesday on positions five and eight. With P9, the No. 6 sister car narrowly missed out on securing a crucial top-8 result. In the GTE-Am category, none of the eight Porsche 911 RSR qualified for the hyperpole, which will be held on Friday.
The best Porsche 963 concluded the 2023 Le Mans 24 Hours in ninth place. In a very close and intense battle over long stretches at the 100th anniversary of the long-distance classic, the Porsche Penske Motorsport works team was struck with misfortune. All three hybrid prototypes lost ground due to incidents or technical defects. As a result, they were unable to chase overall victory with the 515+ kW (700 PS) Porsche 963. The identical vehicle fielded by the Hertz Team Jota also went home empty-handed after a strong performance. In the GTE-Am category, the Porsche 911 RSR fielded by the customer team GR Racing claimed the third podium spot.
At the 24 Hours of Le Mans on 10/11 June, three factory-run Porsche 963 will take on the Hypercar class.
Porsche has won the GTE-Pro class at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Works driver Gianmaria Bruni from Italy, Richard Lietz from Austria and Frédéric Makowiecki from France crossed the finish line in first place after an intensive and gripping race over 350 laps.
Perfect result for the Porsche customer teams in the hyperpole of the 24 Hours of Le Mans: Dries Vanthoor sensationally took pole position in the fiercely contested GTE-Pro class on Thursday evening at the wheel of HubAuto Racing's Porsche 911 RSR in 3:46.882 minutes. The Belgian, brother of Porsche works driver Laurens Vanthoor, prevailed in a close time chase against strong competition from all factory teams. In the GTE-Am category, the 911 will start from the first three positions on Saturday at 16:00. Porsche Young Professional Julian Andlauer from France was more than half a second faster at the wheel of the #88 Dempsey-Proton Racing car than Benjamin Barker in the identical GR Racing car and Matteo Cairoli in the #56 Project 1.
