The Antonov An-12 aircraft "disappeared from radars" during its final approach with seven people on board travelling from Yakutsk. Antonov planes were manufactured during the Soviet era and are still used throughout the former Soviet Union for civilian and military transport, they have been involved in a number of accidents in recent years. The French authorities are close to the site of an accident involving two French army Rafale aircraft to conduct search operations for the two missing pilots. The White House confirms that a national security threat raised by US lawmakers involves Russia developing an anti-satellite weapon.
