Mali's junta announced on Monday a ban on the activities of NGOs funded or supported by France, including humanitarian groups, amid a worsening row between Paris and Bamako. FRANCE 24's Senior Reporter Cyril Payen tells us more.
Humanitarian groups have warned that the situation in Mali risks deteriorating rapidly after Bamako announced a ban on NGOs financed by France. The move came in response to France's decision to cut off public funding to Mali because of its alleged involvement with the Russian paramilitary group Wagner. A French court ruled on Tuesday (February 28) rejected a landmark lawsuit against oil giant TotalEnergies that accused it of failing to protect people and the environment as it pursues oil projects in Uganda and Tanzania. FRANCE 24's Clément Di Roma tells us more.
For the first time, NGOs have tried to halt an oil project through a Paris court, using a 2017 law on multinationals operating outside France. However, the court dismissed the case on Tuesday.
