The world's longest passenger train -- an assembly of 100 connected coaches measuring nearly two kilometres -- wound through breath-taking scenery in the Swiss Alps Saturday. The Rhaetian Railway (RhB) announced that it had beat the world record for the longest passenger train, at an event marking the 175th anniversary of Switzerland's famous railway system.
Train company Rhaetian Railway has claimed the record with its 100-carriage-long convoy spanning 1.91 kilometres, which went on a spectacular trip through the Swiss Alps.
One of the passengers who was aboard a train that derailed in O Porrino in north-western Spain, killing at least four people and injuring dozens, described the ordeal from the near the scene of the crash, Friday. Some 60 people were onboard the train, travelling on the Vigo-Oporto route, when it derailed close to the town's station. The train crashed into a part of bridge, forcing the first of the three carriages completely off the rail tracks.
