Sir Graham Brady, chairman of the Conservative Party's backbench 1922 Committee, announces that Rishi Sunak and Liza Truss have made it to the final ballot of Conservative members to decide who will replace Boris Johnson as the next party leader and Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, with Penny Mordaunt knocked out. British Prime minister Boris Johnson meets with President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky at the Mariinskyi Palace in Kyiv. The British and Polish prime ministers are in Kyiv for talks with Ukrainian President Zelensky, as Russian President Vladimir Putin meets with the Hungarian leader in Moscow and has held a phone call with the Italian prime minister. Boris Johnson has warned on a trip to Kyiv that Russian forces massed on the border represented a "clear and present danger" to Ukraine as another burst of top-level diplomacy tries to head off a major conflict in Europe. The Chair of the 1922 Committee announces the results of the first round of voting for the Conservative leadership content. Bob Blackman, the chair of the committee, announces that staunch right-winger and former Home Secretary Priti Patel, is eliminated from the race. NATO forces cross the Vistula River at Korzeniewo in Poland as part of the US-led defence alliance's Exercise Dragon 24, involving around 4,500 soldiers and almost 1,000 vehicles.
