Une commission d’enquête des gardes-côtes tente de faire la lumière sur les circonstances de l’implosion du submersible Titan, survenue en juin 2023. La Garde côtière des États-Unis a diffusé les premières images de l’épave du sous-marin. Plus d’un an après la catastrophe du sous-marin Titan, qui avait implosé en partant explorer le Titanic, les premières images de l’épave ont été rendues publiques. La Garde côtière des États-Unis (USCG, pour United States Coast Guard), a publié plusieurs vidéos de ce qu’il reste du submersible d’Ocean Gate, avec un premier extrait diffusé sur X le 17 septembre 2024. Les 5 passagers qui avaient embarqué le 18 juin 2023 à bord du sous-marin Titan étaient tous décédés dans l’accident.
La perte du sous-marin Titan et de ses 5 passagers était survenue au mois de juin 2023. Alors que le submersible était parti explorer l’épave du Titanic, le contact avait été rompu à peine quelques heures après sa submersion. Rapidement, les scénarios avaient émergé pour comprendre ce qui avait pu mal tourner pour le Titan. Il avait finalement été confirmé que le sous-marin avait implosé et que l’engin n’était absolument pas en capacité de plonger si profondément. Lors des recherches, des « coups » avaient été entendus dans la zone où était censé se trouver le sous-marin. Rapidement, il s’était avéré que ces bruits étaient probablement un faux espoir. Plusieurs mois après l’accident, un enregistrement de ces sons est entendu pour la première fois. Ils sont diffusés ce mercredi 6 mars 2024 dans un documentaire de la chaîne nationale britannique Channel 5, « The Titan Sub Disaster: Minute by Minute », a repéré Le Parisien.
On a visit to the Philippine Coast Guard headquarters in Manila, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida boards a Japan-made BRP Teresa Magbanua ship with commandant Admiral Ronnie Gavan. EU chief Ursula von der Leyen and Italian prime minister Giorgia Meloni visit Lampedusa following a recent surge in migrant arrivals to the small Italian island. During her visit, von der Leyen said irregular migration was a "European challenge" needing a "European answer", offering a 10-point plan to help Rome deal with the crisis. This week a record of around 8,500 people -- more than the island's entire local population -- have arrived in around 200 boats, according to the UN migration agency. IMAGES
