The fight for Bakhmut, a city in eastern Ukraine and scene of the longest-running battle since Moscow's offensive, is far from over, the head of Russia's Wagner mercenary group said Tuesday. Bakhmut has been at the centre of months of heavy fighting in Russia's nearly year-long offensive in Ukraine, with both sides suffering heavy losses.
Images published by the Russian Defence Ministry show Kamov Ka-52 combat helicopters taking off and launching air strikes, purportedly on an alleged Ukrainian target.

The Institute for the Study of War says Wagner is waiting until enough reinforcements of conventional Russian troops have arrived before taking a backseat in the fierce battle – the most violent fight of the war.
Capturing the eastern Donetsk city is seen more as a symbolic victory for Moscow than a strategic one. For Kyiv, it's becoming a sign of its own resistance
