After weeks of mounting pressure both at home and abroad, Chancellor Olaf Scholz confirmed on Wednesday that Berlin will provide Ukraine with Leopard 2 battle tanks.
The move would be a shift from reluctance to action by Kyiv's allies. An announcement by the US is expected as early as Wednesday.
Germany has delivered promised Leopard battle tanks to Ukraine, Chancellor Olaf Scholz said, providing Kyiv with much-needed heavy weaponry against Russia.
Russia is reportedly trying to slow down supply of Western tanks to Ukraine, according to the Institute for the Study of War.
Germany's Defence Minister Boris Pistorius says he believes the EU member will manage to send a first battalion of tanks to war-torn Ukraine by April. "I think we could deliver at least one battalion in the first four months of this year. Three months maybe. And then we have to proceed as fast as possible of course," he tells reporters while on a visit to Warsaw. SOUNDBITE
