Cyclone Gabrielle has left thousands of homes flooded and without power on New Zealand's North Island, just weeks after flooding killed four people.
High winds and heavy rain lash New Zealand as the severe tropical storm Gabrielle swept away roads, inundated homes and left tens of thousands of residents without power. New Zealand has declared a national state of emergency and officials call it an "unprecedented weather event". IMAGES
The migrant crisis is surging once again in Italy. 31 thousand people have either been rescued or landed on Italy's shores since the start of the year. That's four times more than the same period last year and the year before. The government in Rome has just declared a six-month state of emergency. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan declares a three-month state of emergency in 10 southeastern provinces hit by a major earthquake that has claimed at least 5,000 lives in Turkey and Syria.
