Peruvian police officers and members of the Ministry of Culture find a pre-Hispanic mummy in the isothermal bag of an ex-delivery man in Puno, who refers to her as his "spiritual girlfriend". The man will remain in detention while investigators look into the case, a government official told AFP.
Archaeologists work at the excavation site of a newly discovered pre-Hispanic burial chamber in Peru's northern department of Cajamarca. The site, where human remains and several items used as offerings were found, was devoted to the cult of ancestors, according to experts.
The mummy, which is believed to be between 800 and 1,200 years old, was found in an ancient mud urban centre called Cajamarquilla, located on the outskirts of Lima.
After a four-year search, a team of archaeologists, led by Sam Ghavanmi, have found a 1,000-year-old mural, known as the "Huaca Pintada," in a village in Lambayeque, northern Peru.
