Volkswagen presented the completely redeveloped Touareg - the flagship of the brand. Equipped with the connectivity of a new era and a pioneering fusion of assistance, comfort, lighting and infotainment systems, the Volkswagen Touareg points the way to the future. At the same time, the exclusive SUV charges up its market segment with pure dynamism. The largest markets for what is now the third generation of the Touareg are China, Europe and Russia. Worldwide sales of the previous two generations amount to nearly one million units. The Volkswagen Touareg - as comfortable as it is dynamic - has, as the most technically advanced Volkswagen of its era, the potential to enthuse technology and design savvy drivers of premium class models of all sorts, reaching new target groups as well.
Volkswagen is set to add a range-topping new premium model to its flagship Touareg line - the VW Touareg R. The versatile model's 340 kW (462 PS) plug-in hybrid drive offers an innovative blend of superlative performance and electric efficiency. When the battery is sufficiently charged, the new SUV always starts in the all-electric E-MODE for zero emissions. The battery capacity is designed so that the Touareg R can cover the average daily commute under electric power. Like all Touareg models, the new R version comes with permanent all-wheel drive (4MOTION) as standard. 4MOTION and the powerful drive system (700 Nm of torque) means the Touareg R has also been homologated for a maximum trailer weight of 3.5 tonnes. The premium model can cope with this maximum trailer weight even in E-MODE. As the first plug-in hybrid SUV in the world, the Touareg can also be fitted with the trailer manoeuvring system Trailer Assist. And yet another first: the Touareg will be available with Travel Assist for the first time. The premium model will be the first Volkswagen to boast assisted driving (automatic longitudinal and lateral guidance) up to a speed of 250 km/h.The new flagship model was designed by the Volkswagen R performance brand, which traditionally develops the sportiest models in the Volkswagen range. The VW Touareg R represents a paradigm shift - it is the first Volkswagen R model to feature a plug-in hybrid drive. It is also the first time a hybrid model has been the most highly-powered Volkswagen. Touareg, Volkswagen’s flagship SUV for more than two decades, underscores a proud tradition of quality, capability and comfort that is synonymous with the marque and its extensive array of cutting-edge passenger cars. Comfortably more than 1.1 million people worldwide, including about 58,200 in the UK, have enjoyed the luxury and style afforded by three generations of Touareg over the past 21 years, and that number is set to continue to grow with the arrival, in October 2023, of a comprehensively updated new model.Always a showcase for the latest in Volkswagen technical developments, the Touareg now debuting in UK showrooms exhibits an array of high-tech features, many offered as standard, that once again help define the car as an engineering tour de force.Among the many highlights, today’s Touareg includes the option of newly-developed IQ.Light HD LED matrix headlights which use 38,432 LEDs to turn night into day. Three light modules in each headlight create an unmistakable design and allow various light functions to be used. They also project a lane of light ahead of the driver to provide maximum visibility without dazzling oncoming traffic. Upgraded running gear and further enhanced comfort on- or off-road add to the appeal, while the new Touareg’s renowned towing capabilities of course remain.A redesigned front-end features, for the first time on Touareg, an illuminated horizontal strip in the radiator grille. A similar illuminated line at the rear also offers a first, in the form of a red illuminated Volkswagen logo on top-end variants. Fresh 20-, 21- or 22-inch alloy wheels add to the updated exterior appeal while, inside, Volkswagen has enhanced the Touareg for added comfort on long journeys, including softer armrests and padding on the centre console to cushion knees from bumps. New door panels, also made of a foamed material, come with attractive double decorative seams.
