Lamborghini’s dedication to design, innovative technology and high performance is well established. But the Italian super sports car manufacturer is constantly exploring the boundaries in another fascinating area: colour. The company recently unveiled the “Opera Unica” Huracán Sterrato, a one-off finished in a unique triple-layer crystal-effect paint specially developed by the ground-breaking Ad Personam department. The only limit here is arguably the one imposed by the client’s imagination. But how much do we really know about colour itself? For an exclusive new film, Beyond Colour – No Colour Is More Mysterious than Blue, Lamborghini invited world-renowned art historian James Fox to the Italian island of Sardinia, whose famously blue skies and crystal clear waters inspired the paint treatment showcased on the new car. And his insights into humankind’s relationship with colour are extraordinary.

The diverse landscapes of California provide the perfect environment in which to appreciate the eclectic spirit of the Huracán Sterrato, evident as soon as the tyres hit tarmac and then sand, on road and raceway. Driving the panoramic roads of the remarkable Joshua Tree National Park, adventurers appreciate the driving comfort of the Sterrato on asphalt before hitting the exhilarating dirt tracks in Rally mode at Chuckwalla Valley Raceway. The circuit in the Coachella Valley desert combines a traditional tarmac track with sections of dirt surfaces over a total length of around 4km. The pioneering and unconventional approach of the Lamborghini brand is evident in the Huracán Sterrato’s performance in such diverse environments, with optimized vehicle dynamics for perfect driving control on all surfaces. The adventurous character of the Sterrato is clear at first glance: ground clearance is increased by 44mm compared to the Huracan EVO for greater suspension travel, with wider tracks both front and rear of +30 mm and +34 mm respectively. The aluminium front underbody protection, the reinforced sills, the rear diffuser and the robust wheel arches not only protect the car but emphasize its muscularity. The distinctive air intakes on the rear bonnet enhance the sporting character of the Sterrato, but supply the engine with clean air when driving on dusty roads. The 19” rims shod with specially-developed Bridgestone Dueler AT002 tires offer maximum versatility and adaptiveness on any surface and any conditions, for optimum driver feedback and enjoyment as well as performance.

The Huracán Sterrato arrived in an exclusive ski resort in the Italian Alps, proving its prowess on snow and ice. Switching from road-driving modes to its special ‘rally’ option, the set-up of the permanent four-wheel drive Huracán Sterrato conquered the low-grip surfaces of the winter destination with a dynamic flourish. The revised LDVI system (Lamborghini Integrated Vehicle Dynamics) of the Huracán Sterrato delivers specifically-calibrated STRADA and SPORT drive settings for road, with the new RALLY mode optimized for dirt and loose surfaces including snow: another facet of the super sports car’s fun-to-drive personality. Its wider tracks and increased ride height made short shrift of the snowy setting, and the Sterrato’s Bridgestone Dueler AT002 run-flat tyres, specially-adapted for the all-terrain Huracán and rated for its top speed of 260 km/h, assured maximum performance in the wintery conditions. The aluminum front underbody, reinforced sills and rear diffuser, and enhanced wheel arches protected the Sterrato from icy obstacles, and emphasized its powerful muscularity in the challenging winter sports environment.
