On the outskirts of the Greek capital of Athens, firefighting helicopters drop water on blazes as they struggle to tame deadly wildfires burning through the country for a sixth day. So far, 20 people have been killed in the blazes. IMAGES
A fire fanned by strong winds on the Greek tourist island of Chios is threatening homes after burning through several olive groves. Evacuations have been ordered as Nathan Frandino reports.
A large crowd of Greek farmers demonstrate on Syntagma Square in central Athens to demand financial aid, escalating a four-week showdown with a government that says it has no more funds to help. Farmers began protesting last month, joining a wider movement that has seen roads blocked in France, Germany, Italy, Poland and Spain, among other countries. IMAGES
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan lands in Athens leading a delegation of diplomats on a keenly watched visit to Greece billed as an attempted "new chapter" between the NATO allies and historic rivals after years of tension. Several thousand protesters march to the Israeli embassy in Athens in solidarity with the Palestinian people, with many protesters chanting "Free Palestine" whilst calling for immediate ceasefire in the deadly war between Israel and Hamas. Since Hamas militants stormed across the Israeli border on October 7, Israel has relentlessly bombarded the Gaza Strip and sent in ground troops, with the health ministry in the Hamas-run Palestinian territory saying 9,770 people have been killed, nearly half of them -- at least 4,800 -- children.
