Volkswagen is set to add a range-topping new premium model to its flagship Touareg line - the VW Touareg R. The versatile model's 340 kW (462 PS) plug-in hybrid drive offers an innovative blend of superlative performance and electric efficiency. When the battery is sufficiently charged, the new SUV always starts in the all-electric E-MODE for zero emissions. The battery capacity is designed so that the Touareg R can cover the average daily commute under electric power. Like all Touareg models, the new R version comes with permanent all-wheel drive (4MOTION) as standard. 4MOTION and the powerful drive system (700 Nm of torque) means the Touareg R has also been homologated for a maximum trailer weight of 3.5 tonnes. The premium model can cope with this maximum trailer weight even in E-MODE. As the first plug-in hybrid SUV in the world, the Touareg can also be fitted with the trailer manoeuvring system Trailer Assist. And yet another first: the Touareg will be available with Travel Assist for the first time. The premium model will be the first Volkswagen to boast assisted driving (automatic longitudinal and lateral guidance) up to a speed of 250 km/h.The new flagship model was designed by the Volkswagen R performance brand, which traditionally develops the sportiest models in the Volkswagen range. Touareg, Volkswagen’s flagship SUV for more than two decades, underscores a proud tradition of quality, capability and comfort that is synonymous with the marque and its extensive array of cutting-edge passenger cars. Comfortably more than 1.1 million people worldwide, including about 58,200 in the UK, have enjoyed the luxury and style afforded by three generations of Touareg over the past 21 years, and that number is set to continue to grow with the arrival, in October 2023, of a comprehensively updated new model.Always a showcase for the latest in Volkswagen technical developments, the Touareg now debuting in UK showrooms exhibits an array of high-tech features, many offered as standard, that once again help define the car as an engineering tour de force.Among the many highlights, today’s Touareg includes the option of newly-developed IQ.Light HD LED matrix headlights which use 38,432 LEDs to turn night into day. Three light modules in each headlight create an unmistakable design and allow various light functions to be used. They also project a lane of light ahead of the driver to provide maximum visibility without dazzling oncoming traffic. Upgraded running gear and further enhanced comfort on- or off-road add to the appeal, while the new Touareg’s renowned towing capabilities of course remain.A redesigned front-end features, for the first time on Touareg, an illuminated horizontal strip in the radiator grille. A similar illuminated line at the rear also offers a first, in the form of a red illuminated Volkswagen logo on top-end variants. Fresh 20-, 21- or 22-inch alloy wheels add to the updated exterior appeal while, inside, Volkswagen has enhanced the Touareg for added comfort on long journeys, including softer armrests and padding on the centre console to cushion knees from bumps. New door panels, also made of a foamed material, come with attractive double decorative seams.
At the world premiere, Volkswagen presents the first photos and facts of the completely newly developed Passat. The focus is on powerful aerodynamic design, new high-efficiency drives, high quality and a host of new technologies. In just a few days, the vehicle will be shown to the public for the first time at the IAA Mobility in Munich (5 to 9 September 2023). The new Passat will be launched as a versatile Variant in the first quarter of 2024. With more than 34 million units sold worldwide, the Passat is the top-selling Volkswagen of all time after the Golf and ahead of the Beetle.Clean and powerful – the design is clearly Passat, clearly Volkswagen, yet new from every perspective. The customer-focused range of three new plug-in and mild hybrid drives and five turbocharged petrol and diesel engine variants is characterised by efficiency. The quiet and spacious Passat Variant offers a high level of travel comfort and will be optionally available with new adaptive chassis control (DCC Pro) and new ergoActive seats (with pneumatic pressure point massage). The intuitive features of the digitalised cockpit landscape are a completely new development. The new Passat can also optionally park independently and cover long distances in assisted driving mode.The two completely newly developed plug-in hybrid drives (eHybrid) with a system output of 150 kW (204 PS) and 200 kW (272 PS) are a perfect example of this. In combination with a new 19.7 kWh battery (net energy content), they make all-electric ranges of around 100 km possible. This distance turns the new Passat Variant into an electric vehicle for everyday life – this is additionally ensured by short charging times as the battery can now be charged at AC charge points with 11 kW instead of the previous 3.6 kW. The Passat Variant eHybrid can even be charged with up to 50 kW at DC fast charging stations. In addition, the combination of electric drive motor and new economical turbocharged petrol engine (1.5 TSI evo2) provides overall ranges of around 1,000 km.
Higher efficiency and lower emissions: Volkswagen has enhanced its bestselling 1.5 TSI petrol engine and is now introducing the latest generation, the TSI evo2, in the first models in Europe. This engine makes it possible to reduce both fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. The compact, ultra-modern four-cylinder engine will initially be available with an output of 110 kW (150 PS), and further variants of the 1.5 TSI evo2 will follow. The T-Roc and T-Roc Cabriolet will be the first models to be delivered with the new engine. The TSI evo2 will also be introduced successively in other models by the end of the year
