Mud and wreckage blights the southern island of Ischia after a deadly landslide swept through the small town of Casamicciola Terme. Italy's government declared a state of emergency after the disaster killed at least one person and left a dozen missing.
Italian rescuers were searching for missing people on the southern island of Ischia on Sunday after a landslide killed at least four and the government declared a state of emergency. A wave of mud and debris crashed through the small town of Casamicciola Terme on Saturday morning, engulfing at least one house and sweeping cars down to the sea, local media and emergency services said.
A woman's body was found after a wave of mud and debris caused by heavy rains devastated the small town of Casamicciola Terme on the island off Naples on Saturday.
Buildings are said to have been engulfed by mud and water in Casamicciola Terme, following torrential rain on the island some 30 kilometres from Naples.
"We don't know if there are still people under this rubble," says Isaac Castillo as residents help rescue teams comb through mud and debris in search of 52 missing people after a landslide swept through Las Tejerias in Venezuela, killing at least 36.
