In an exclusive interview with AFP, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg says that Russia is "planning for a long war" in Ukraine, and urges Kyiv's NATO backers to keep supporting Ukraine's military until President Vladimir Putin realises he "cannot win on the battlefield".
NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg warned Tuesday that Russia was using winter as a "weapon of war" against Ukraine, as Western allies meeting in Bucharest planned to help Kyiv mend its ravaged power grid. FRANCE 24's Senior Reporter Catherine Norris-Trent tells us more.
NATO's secretary general said Russia's offensive was failing, as foreign ministers meeting in Berlin welcomed anticipated membership bids from Finland and Sweden.
During a joint press conference in Berlin with German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius, NATO's Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg says there is "no indication that President Putin has changed his goals, he wants to control Ukraine," and adds that he's confident a solution on battle tanks for Ukraine will "soon" be reached.
Jens Stoltenberg says the NATO summit in Madrid will agree "a comprehensive programme of assistance" to help Ukraine "enforce its right to self-defence" against Russian aggression.
