Rome's annual Christmas tree looks a bit bare this year, and locals have noticed. Municipal authorities spent an eye-watering €48,000, or about $56,700 on the Christmas tree, which citizens have compared to a toilet brush. The word 'spelacchio,' meaning 'mangy' in Italian, has been trending on Twitter, as people across the country voice their opinions.
This Christmas tradition would even give the Grinch the chills! A half goat and half demon being called the Krampus was out and about at the Munich Christmas markets on Sunday, making sure all the girls and boys have been good this year. The tradition comes from folk legends originating in the eastern Alps, where Krampus is portrayed as a beast that punishes misbehaving children. The procession, known as the 'Krampus Run', is an annual event where some attendees wearing spooky Krampus suits make their way through crowds, occasionally picking out individuals and ‘beating’ them.
