More than 400 million European voters will choose a new five-year EU parliament between June 6 and 9 next year, announces the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola. "Every person, in every member state, will go to vote" she says, "your vote matters". Elections in the EU's 27 member states will decide the make-up of the roughly 700-seat assembly, charged with overseeing European legislation. SOUNDBITE
Ecuadorian President Guillermo Lasso attends his impeachment trial before the National Congress in Quito as supporters and opponents gather outside to watch the trial on a giant screen. The right-wing president is accused by his critics of wrongdoing in a state contract to transport crude oil.
