Head of the Norwegian Nobel Committee, Berit Reiss-Andersen, says they "hope" Iran would release jailed Nobel Peace Prize laureate Narges Mohammadi so she could attend the prize ceremony in December. Women's rights campaigner Narges Mohammadi's Nobel peace prize win pays tribute to the courage of Iranian women in the face of reprisals and harrassment, the United Nations says. The award "really highlights the courage and determination of the women of Iran and how they are an inspiration to the world", UN human rights office spokeswoman Elizabeth Throssell tells reporters. Osman Kavala, an imprisoned Turkish human rights defender, has been awarded the Council of Europe's Vaclav Havel Human Rights Prize. As Ankara's bête noire, Kavala risked incurring the wrath of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. In his absence, it was his wife, Ayse Bugra Kavala, who received the award from the President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Tiny Kox, in the hemicycle of the European Parliament in Strasbourg.
