Head of the Norwegian Nobel Committee, Berit Reiss-Andersen, says they "hope" Iran would release jailed Nobel Peace Prize laureate Narges Mohammadi so she could attend the prize ceremony in December. "If the Iranian authorities make the right decision, they will release her," she tells a press conference after announcing Mohammadi was this year's prize winner. SOUNDBITE
Women's rights campaigner Narges Mohammadi's Nobel peace prize win pays tribute to the courage of Iranian women in the face of reprisals and harrassment, the United Nations says. The award "really highlights the courage and determination of the women of Iran and how they are an inspiration to the world", UN human rights office spokeswoman Elizabeth Throssell tells reporters. The combination of the two winners Kailash Satyarthi and Malala Yousafzai, Hindu and Muslim, Indian and Pakistani, was chosen because they join in a common struggle for education and against extremism.
A representative for the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights congratulates the journalists Maria Ressa and Dimitri Muratov for their Nobel Peace Prize, calling it a prize "for all journalists who are out there working in very difficult conditions". SOUNDBITE
