Porsche has unveiled the new 935 on the occasion of the historic “Rennsport Reunion” motorsport event at Laguna Seca Raceway in California. The 515 kW (700 hp) racer featuring a body reminiscent of the legendary Porsche 935/78 will be produced in a limited number of 77 units. “This spectacular car is a birthday present from Porsche Motorsport to fans all over the world,” says Dr Frank-Steffen Walliser, Vice President Motorsport and GT Cars. “Because the car isn’t homologated, engineers and designers didn’t have to follow the usual rules and thus had freedom in the development.”
The 911 GT3 R rennsport with a power output of up to 456 kW (620 PS) is based on the new 911 GT3 R of the current 992 generation. The limited-edition tracktool is the result of a design-oriented approach and benefits technically from the freedoms that go beyond motorsport regulations. The international Porsche meeting will take place on the Californian racing track from 28 September to 1 October. More than 80,000 visitors are expected to attend the four-day event.One of the special features of this unique collector’s item, which is limited to 77 units, is the distinctively designed body. The Porsche 911 GT3 R rennsport combines the powerful appearance of a high-performance competition car with modern design elements. At the same time, it hails back to the sports car manufacturer's motorsport history without drifting into a retro look. Elementary performance factors of the original GT3 model, such as air resistance and aerodynamic downforce remain largely untouched. As a thoroughbred racing car, the form of the 911 GT3 R rennsport continues to follow function – but it does that in an extremely emotional and attractive way.
The Porsche Rennsport Reunion VI at Laguna Seca (USA) has more than 60,000 fans of the brand from Stuttgart spellbound. At the four-day event in California, avid motor racing enthusiasts in legendary vehicles and unforgotten works drivers from the last five decades congregate. Around 2,500 vehicles – from the 356 Speedster to the RS Spyder, the 959 Dakar and the 919 Hybrid – thrill visitors with their fast laps in seven categories. The theme of the sixth edition of the Porsche Rennsport Reunion is “Champions”, and with over 30,000 race wins, the sports car manufacturer from Weissach is by far the most successful brand in motorsports worldwide.
The 2023 Porsche 911 GT3 RS made its first in-person appearance today at The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering, only two days after its digital world premiere. The show car – customized by the GT Model Line and Style Porsche – is a tribute to the 1972 911 Carrera RS 2.7.
Porsche completes its sports car trio in time for summer: following on from the Coupé and Cabriolet, the third body variant of the new 911 generation now makes its debut with the all-wheel drive 911 Targa 4 and 911 Targa 4S models. The two new 911 models celebrate their premiere on the Porsche web TV channel 9:11 Magazine.
