The Volkswagen brand is giving its electric offensive an additional boost: by 2027, Europe’s largest automotive manufacturer will launch eleven new all-electric models and thus offer the widest electric vehicle range of all manufacturers – from a compact car priced as less than 25,000 euros through to a family saloon. GTI Concept show car presented for the first time at the IAA Mobility in Munich provides a concrete insight into how Volkswagen will transport the iconic GTI label into the electric future. At the international motor show, the new orientation of the brand will be visible in all areas for the first time. Alongside electric vehicles such as the ID. GTI Concept, ID.4, ID.5 and new ID.7, Volkswagen will also continue to offer efficient combustion engine vehicles such as the new generations of the Passat and the Tiguan In the Open Space on the Odeonsplatz, Volkswagen will also show itself as an approachable brand that is looking to engage in discussions with visitors.
The Volkswagen ID. SPACE VIZZION electric concept combines the aerodynamic design of a Gran Turismo with the spaciousness and versatility of an SUV. With an 82 kWH battery and an incredibly low drag coefficient of 0.24, the vehicle has a range of 590 kilometers on the WLTP cycle and a predicted range of up to 300 miles on the EPA cycle. The seventh member of the ID. concept family, the ID. SPACE VIZZION previews a potential production car for Europe and North America.The concept car is manufactured on Volkswagen's modular electric drive matrix (MEB), as are all ID. family models. This creates an entirely new package as the electric drive components are extremely compact and the battery is integrated into the vehicle floor to save space, making it possible to alter a vehicle's overall architecture. The concept car is fitted with a rear-mounted, 275-horsepower motor, but a second motor could be fitted to give all-wheel-drive capability and a total output of 355 hp. The ID. SPACE VIZZION is 195.2 inches long, 60.2 inches high, and 74.7 inches wide.Since electric vehicles don't need a radiator or space for an engine, this creates new design freedom. In the case of the ID. SPACE VIZZION, the designers and engineers have taken advantage of this freedom to optimize the aerodynamics-in this case, to reduce the coefficient of drag (Cd) to 0.24-and thus increase the efficiency and range. Air flows under a horizontal panel between the headlights and over the extremely low hood, before being directed to the rear, where there is another horizontal panel over the tailgate that allows air to flow under it.
Volkswagen introduced the next member of the ID concept family at the 2019 Geneva International Motor Show - the ID Buggy. Drawing inspiration from the classic Californian dune buggies of the 60s, the ID Buggy shows the versatility of the modular electric drive matrix (MEB) and puts the fun in functional.ID Buggy is at once futuristic and retro. The MEB chassis integrates a 62kWh lithium-ion battery into the floor and a 201-horsepower electric motor in the rear to give it an expected range of 155 miles on the WLTP cycle. The minimalistic design-no doors or roof on this two-seater-gives drivers the purest experience of classic beach cruising.Like the dune buggies of the 60s, ID Buggy is extremely versatile. All buggies from the 60s featured a high degree of modular variability-based on the chassis of the legendary Beetle with a four-cylinder boxer engine running at the rear. Small-series manufacturers stretched a body made of fiberglass over the chassis and engine of the Beetle, thus writing automotive history. The same versatility is possible with ID Buggy-while the ID Buggy concept car is a pure 2-seater; it can also be converted to a 2+2-seater and an additional electric motor could be added to the front axle in order to make four-wheel drive possible. In addition, the BUGGY's modular design allows for the composite upper body to be detached from the MEB chassis, opening up a world of possibilities for third-party manufacturers, as the original Meyers Manx kit did for the first buggies.
With the world premiere of the ID. CODE at Auto China 2024 in Beijing, Volkswagen is providing a first glimpse of a completely new SUV generation, a new design language for China and a new technology generation. The concept car was developed specifically for Volkswagen customers in China. With the ID. CODE, Volkswagen is interpreting SUV design in a completely new way and enriching it with fascinatingly superior dynamics in the age of electric mobility. The newly designed living space on board the ID. CODE fits perfectly into this picture – here, the real and virtual worlds combine to create a new mobility experience. The electrically powered concept car can be driven conventionally and also used autonomously at Level 4. The ID. CODE offers a more fascinating experience than ever before – it interacts with the driver, passengers and surroundings so that life with this Volkswagen becomes a completely new automotive adventure.
Extremely emotive, extremely adventurous, extremely different. The new all-electric ID. XTREME concept vehicle demonstrates the enormous performance capacity and extraordinary versatility of Volkswagen’s modular electric drive matrix (MEB). A performance drive on the rear axle and software adjustments to the control unit give the ID. XTREME impressive off-road capabilities. The fully electric all-wheel drive develops a system power of 285 kW/387 PS. This corresponds to a performance increase of around 30 percent compared to the gene donor ID.4 GTX.Take an Xtra portion of passion, an Xtra pinch of enthusiasm and a test vehicle that is no longer needed in series development after successful trials. The Xtravagant things that can come out of this are impressively demonstrated by the ID. XTREME off-road concept car.“The all-electric concept vehicle with all-wheel drive is based on the ID.4 GTX and convincingly demonstrates the high technical potential of the modular electric drive matrix (MEB),” explains Andreas Reckewerth, Head of MEB Complete Vehicle. “The impressive electric power and the chassis with off-road capability are guarantees for extremely emotive driving experiences both on the road and on off-road terrain. In order to achieve this, the ID. XTREME combines the strengths of a modern SUV with the adventurous spirit and 4x4 capabilities of a robust off-roader.” The concept vehicle was designed and built in Volkswagen’s Engineering department in the team led by Andreas Reckewerth.
