Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan arrives in Moscow ahead of a tripartite meeting with Russian and Azerbaijani leaders on Nagorno-Karabakh. Vladimir Putin is due to receive Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and the Armenian PM in Moscow for trilateral talks on the implementation of the cessation of hostilities agreement in the contested region, signed on November 9 under the aegis from Russia. Images published by the Russian Defence Ministry show a military arts troupe wearing WWII military uniforms and performing a musical and dance show for peacekeepers responsible for monitoring the Lachin corridor. Some 2,000 Russian peacekeepers are deployed between the two sides and along this 60-kilometre (35-mile) route through the district that connects Karabakh's main city Stepanakert to Armenia. IMAGES
Azerbaijan and Armenia's temporary ceasefire came into effect Saturday after almost two weeks of fighting over the disputed Nagorno-Karabakh region. But according to CNN, the deal appears fragile, with both countries accusing each other of violating the terms of the Russia-brokered agreement. The Russian Foreign Ministry says the ceasefire was called 'for humanitarian purposes,' allowing for the exchange of prisoners and the bodies of the deceased. The ceasefire came the day after UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet spoke of the suffering that the conflict was inflicting on civilians. It is deeply worrying that in recent days we have seen populated areas reportedly targeted and shelled with heavy weaponry in and around the conflict area.
